TORBOON takes inspiration from Chiang Mai’s rural charm. Our “Chiang Mai” bag collection is based on “Kratip”, the iconic bamboo sticky rice lidded basket. An item that accompanies every Thai farmer daily to his field, carrying his lunch—for centuries.

We designed our Chiang Mai to hang elegantly and comfortably when worn over the shoulder or across the body. We opted for the durable pandanus fiber to construct the base—given us both the natural texture feel and the flexibility to shape it exactly to our design specification. The original Kratip is woven from thin bamboo strips which can easy cracked if it is not perfectly cylindrical.

Chiang Mai lid features a panel of our handwoven textile underneath the leather top. The lid perfectly nests its base and playfully slides off the partially braided leather straps.
